What are the chances that a student will graduate from college on time?

The average graduation rate for students graduating in four years for public colleges in Virginia is 52.3%. When the length of time in college is extended by two years, the graduation rate increases But the cost of the degree increases as well. The range of four-year degree completion at state colleges in Virginia within four years is 18% to 87%. As consumers, students and parents should note that colleges have very different graduation success rates from one another. Explanations include student goals differing by institutional 

demographic, students taking lighter course loads or being more likely to pursue graduate work due to the economy and other factors. This is a good topic to discuss during college visits.
