Kids Today

How is Your Family Wired on Colleges and Majors?

Although parents THINK they have an understanding of what colleges and majors are under consideration by their teen, that is not always the case. One of the reasons is that teens are often carefully considering what their parents have advised and re-evaluating their plans as a result (while appearing to ignore parent advice). So a parent who thinks their teen has tunnel vision focused on a visual or performing arts career or a college on another continent, may not know that their teen is actually considering another major at a college closer to home.

Why your kid rocks!

I often talk to worried parents who are concerned about how their kids will measure up in the college admissions process. Then I meet their kids. I've never met a teen who did not absolutely rock.
In the frenzy to get kids ready for college and into competitive colleges, sometimes we lose sight of how awesome they are. Although SAT scores, high school grade point average and activity resumes are very important, there are other areas where students also shine. Areas like sense of humor, respectfulness, integrity, honesty, genuineness, creativity, generosity, willingness to volunteer, work habits and teamwork are just a few that stand out.
