Parent Anxiety

The college process for high school seniors is very stressful for parents. Seniors worry mostly about where to go and about getting in. Their parents worry about much more:
  • maintaining their grades in school while competing college applications
  • college affordability
  • college distance from home
  • college safety records
  • the chances of getting a professional job after college graduation

The anxiety levels of parents and their teens are lower when they work together on college research and college choice. Teens need to know how much parents plan to contribute to college costs in order to choose colleges within the family budget or put more effort into scholarship applications. Parents can minimize conflict by helping with the management of tasks and avoiding criticism.
