Last week I spoke with a mother whose son had not yet applied to college. He did not have any idea what he wanted to study and was not sure his grades were competitive for college admission. This situation was easily resolved. Through assessment and counseling, his major was identified. Knowing what he wanted to study, we were able to look for colleges still accepting applications and narrow that list down to those that offer his major. He has successfully applied for college admission at a college compatible with his qualifications.
It is critical that students identify the major that is best for them. Focusing on career plans, helps them make college choices that will meet their needs. Although May is late in the college application season, there are colleges accepting applications as late as July.
Do you know a high school senior who is still not sure where to go or what to study?
