For high school seniors, this is it. They have approximately 2 weeks to get in their applications for college admission for many colleges. Although some colleges, like community colleges and private proprietary schools enroll students on a rolling basis, most four year colleges are making their admission decisions NOW.
The pressure to get applications in and the volume of choices available sometimes causes a sort of college admission process paralysis in some high school students.
When parents see this lack of inertia, it is time to act.
For the student who is overwhelmed by the process who seems to be stalled, get someone to help the student. The person can be a family member, guidance counselor or other professional. An objective, supportive person can boost the confidence of the student by adding information, structure and support to the process.
A buddy, professional or otherwise, could be the best Christmas gift ever for the high school senior who is paralyzed by information overload and maybe some trepidation about leaving home.
